TAKE TIME OUT AND EXPERIENCE THE ZILLERGRUND WINTER MAGIC!
The days when the sun shines, the warming light releases your happy hormones and your eyes cannot get enough of the enchanting winter landscape are special. Head to the Zillergrund and enjoy the winter magic with all five of our senses.
HOW DO I GO TO THE ZILLERGRUND?
On foot from Mayrhofen on the winter hiking trail Oberkumbichl to Klaushof and Häusling Alm.
By car through the Brandberg tunnel; after the tunnel entry on the right side is the “Maurach” parking here; from there hike to the Zillergrund.
By car through the Brandberg tunnel, after the tunnel entry, turn left into the Zillergrund; there is a parking area accross from Klaushof. From there hike along the road to Häusling Alm.
FROM KLAUSHOF TO WINTER WONDER LAND
Along the road, the impressions are stunning. Abundant snow on the rugged mountains form ice stalactites that are unparalleled. And up above you is the steel-blue sky. Along the Ziller, which is still relatively narrow here and flows leisurely out of the valley, nature looks frozen. Cold, blue, white. The landscape all around glitters, as if there were millions of brilliant diamonds on a white carpet. It's breathtaking!
ARRIVING AT THE HÄUSLING ALM
The valley gets broader here; the mountains are not so overwhelmingly close, and the Häusling Alm is near. The winter magic has already started in the nearby field. Through the snow you walk directly to the Schneeiglu, the snow chapel. Take a curious look into the chapel and see a beautiful ice queen, as clear as glass. The sight will warm your heart. You will almost admire the mother with a child in her arms.
The Children’s Winter World is also a real treat for kids
CHILDREN’S WINTER WORLD
A winter world opens up here for the little ones. Slipping in the snow, having a snowball fight, building a snowman or just crawling through the snow cave or sledding down the hill - it’s pure fun and makes children's eyes light up!
CHURCH MARIA SCHNEE
The Church Maria Schnee stands behind the Häusling Alm. As you enter this lovely church, one thing becomes clear – it's minimal, and because nothing distracts your thoughts, it’s an ideal place to look inward.
After a stop at the Häusling Alm, I head back. I want to process the impressions while walking. Having arrived at the Klaushof, I enjoyed a warming cup of tea and drove back to Mayrhofen with the impressions on my mind.
Tip: The sun will be out at the Zillergrund starting February!
